The leather inside and out is so soft and supple however, my foot felt secure and the shoe holds your foot-you don't feel like you're going to walk and lose one behind you. I wear an 8 1/2 medium. The heel is strong and I didn't feel like I was teetering and falling over. The cut out areas above the toe compliment and add so much beauty and class to the style of the shoe.
